What is Double Opt-in?

Double Opt-in is a process often used in digital marketing that involves a two-step confirmation process before receiving electronic communications. This process is often used for newsletters or newsletter sign-ups and is important to ensure compliance with privacy rules.

This process works as follows:

  • The first step is to fill out a form on the website where the user enters their email to sign up for newsletters or other marketing messages.
  • After completing and submitting the form, the user will receive an automated email with a link that they must click to confirm their interest in receiving these emails.

The second step is the key here. Double opt-in thus ensures that the person subscribing is indeed the owner of the email address and that they actually agree to receive marketing messages. This helps minimize the chances of misunderstandings and protects both the business and the user from unwanted emails.

Double opt-in is also important for compliance with GDPR and other data protection laws. User consent is one of the key aspects of these regulations and double opt-in is a powerful tool to ensure this.

Using Double Opt-in also improves the quality of the subscriber database, as people who complete the process generally show higher engagement rates. In addition, double opt-in can help reduce the likelihood that a business’s emails will be flagged as spam.
Double opt-in is an effective tool for ensuring a transparent and legal communication process with your users, while also improving the quality of your subscriber list.

Setting Up A Double Opt-In Email in Incomaker

First, under “automatic campaigns” select “double opt-in”.

Next, label your double opt-in campaign, and under “list of events,” choose the corresponding pop-up campaign.

Then, select an email template for your double opt-in campaign.

Next, create a subject line for your double opt-in campaign.

Then, open the drop-down menu, and select “buttons”.

Under “buttons,” select “email verification” and drag the item onto your email template.

Edit your double opt-in button’s shape, size, and color as desired, then edit the button’s text.

Scroll down, click “save and exit,” and you’re finished! Congratulations!

How do I redirect to a thank you page other than Incomaker’s default one?

If you’re setting up buttons in existing campaigns, add a link behind the confirmation button (replace the link with your own):

&incoRedirectUrl=https://seznam.cz

The resulting link will then look something like this:

 ____urlAdress_____/content/confirm/__MAILUTIL_unsubId__?incoContentEvent=consent_1683290788962&assign=__ECM_assign-0||``_&incoRedirectUrl=https://seznam.cz

If a new campaign is being set up, add it behind the link in the button (you replace the link with your own):

?incoRedirectUrl=https://seznam.cz
